O-RING ENGINEERING GUIDE

Material, size and evidence—made easier to compare.

Start with the media, temperature, pressure, motion and groove. Maibos then reviews the compound, dimensions and inspection evidence as one specification.

MATERIAL SELECTOR

Four established elastomer families.

Filter by the dominant operating condition. The table is a screening tool, not a substitute for application testing.

01NBRNitrile rubber
Typical service window
Approx. −34 to +121 °C
Typical hardness
Common quote band: 60–90 Shore A
Where it performs
Mineral oils, many fuels, good wear and broad industrial availability.
Watch-outs
Usually not the first choice for ozone, weathering, ketones or strong oxidising media.
Common applications
Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, oil-contact seals, general machinery.
02FKM / FPMFluorocarbon rubber
Typical service window
Approx. −26 to +205 °C
Typical hardness
Common quote band: 70–90 Shore A
Where it performs
Heat, oils, fuels and many chemical environments.
Watch-outs
Hot water, steam, ketones and low-temperature duty require grade-specific review.
Common applications
Automotive, process equipment, high-temperature oil and fuel systems.
03VMQ / PVMQSilicone rubber
Typical service window
Typical project window: −60 to +200 °C
Typical hardness
Common quote band: 40–80 Shore A
Where it performs
Wide temperature flexibility, ozone and weather resistance; colour options.
Watch-outs
Abrasion, tear strength and gas permeability can limit dynamic or high-pressure use.
Common applications
Thermal cycling, electrical equipment and selected clean or special-purpose assemblies.
04EPDMEthylene propylene rubber
Typical service window
Approx. −57 to +121 °C
Typical hardness
Common quote band: 50–90 Shore A
Where it performs
Water, steam, ozone, weathering and many polar fluids.
Watch-outs
Generally unsuitable for petroleum oils, hydrocarbon fuels and many non-polar solvents.
Common applications
Water systems, outdoor equipment, braking fluids and selected chemical service.

SIZE REFERENCE

Turn a size name into a usable conversation.

Search the common metric cross-sections or review the five nominal AS568 cross-section families. Full copyrighted standard tables are not reproduced; final size and tolerance are confirmed from the governing standard and drawing.

STANDARDS & COMPLIANCE

Click through the evidence chain.

Standards define dimensions, test methods or acceptance rules. They do not by themselves prove that every Maibos part is certified. We confirm the applicable revision, compound and required evidence before order.

RFQ CHECKLIST

Seven inputs produce a better seal review.

Even partial information is useful. Unknown values can be resolved during technical review.

  1. 01Medium and concentration
  2. 02Minimum / maximum temperature
  3. 03Pressure and pressure cycling
  4. 04Static, rotary or reciprocating motion
  5. 05Groove dimensions or equipment drawing
  6. 06Target hardness and colour
  7. 07Required standard, inspection and compliance evidence
